SIM Not Inserted / Detected
What is 'SIM not inserted'?
The modem is unable to detect the SIM card and soon resets itself trying to get a fix of the SIM card, this will repeat itself until the system is rebooted.
Note: GPS relies on the modem to be online to pass data but since it's constantly rebooting there is no GPS data coming through.
Diagnostics
Universe
GSM (the modem device) should have considerable downtime due to it rebooting.
GSM_DATA, GSM_SIGNAL, and GSM_PPP should all be down roughly the same amount of downtime as each other.
Log Entry
The messages log will entries that contain the phrase "SIM not inserted", there will be multiple entries if it is this bug.

Resolution
The system will require reboot a to regain functionality (sometimes a power cycle may be necessary).

If the SIM card is used in an environment with high vibration levels, SIM card contact fretting may cause unexpected SIM card failures.
To protect the SIM cards, Black Moth strongly recommends that you apply a thin layer of dielectric grease to the SIM contacts prior to installing the SIM cards.
If a SIM card has already presented with this error it's recommended to replace that SIM card if the issue persists.
Mechanical failure of the SIM contacts can be caused by:
a) detritus on them (grease, oxidation, films) and should be periodically cleaned with a soft cloth and solvents like metho or isopropyl alcohol
b) wear. Vibration can slowly wear out sim cards. Micro-vibrations can wear away the gold flash on the contacts. This may also happen on the sim connector.
Either of these issues would create a "SIM not inserted" fault.
Which Dielectric grease?
A pretty common brand is 'Permatex' dielectric tune-up grease.
Any dielectric grease will work because it's intended for electronic use.
