TigerMX-5 overheating | Monitor is not displaying camera feed
What does it look like?
To the User
The Black Moth Camera monitor will be slow to respond, appear to not be working, and/or not showing the video feed.
Universe Health
'CPU_TEMP' will display as False (or red) if it has detected that the system has breached the allowed temperature threshold.
Logs
Sensors_monitor.log
This log will show the CPU temperature over the duration of the day.
it should equalise after a couple hours of operation, but if it continues to escalate and reaches over 75 degrees this is considered to be overheating.
- {"battery_current": 10010, "battery_voltage": 12625, "cpu_temperature": 83.171,....}
Messages.log
If the TigerMX-5 has detected that the system is too hot it will log this entry which confirms the CPU processing power has been reduced.
- warning atlas kernel: [28005.457388] System is too hot. GPU3D will work at 1/64 clock.
API
Using /health/readings/
- "cpu_temp": {
- "high": 82.97,"avg": 82.8775,"low": 82.415,"value": 82.97
- },
Health Checks
'cpu_temp' will display as False (or black) if it has detected that the system has breached the allowed temperature threshold.
Why does this happen?
When the TigerMX-5 reaches critical temperatures, as a precaution, it throttles the CPU to 1/64 of it's processing power, this greatly reduces the amount of data that reaches the Camera Monitor.
This is not a fault with the monitor or the cameras, but with the TigerMX-5.
Resolution
Evidence
Firstly we require some photographic evidence of the environment that the Tiger is in to create a discussion on if it's the Tiger or if it's where it's installed.
Prevention
In-Vehicle Environment
Ensure there is adequate space around the TigerMX-5 as it relies on airflow to carry the heat away from it.
If there's anything covering the system, this could be preventing the heat from dispersing and attributing to high temperatures.
Outside Environment
If it's a particularly hot day, hotter than usual than it's likely the system will still be able to manage if further airflow is directed towards it. ie angle an air vent in it's direction.
Repair
Request RMA
If you've confirmed that:
- there is nothing blocking the airflow to the system and that
- it's not an abnormally hot day and
- the system is overheating according to the checks above.
then:

Hi Black Moth Support,
Can you create an RMA # for the following:
